AMINO ACIDS - INJECTION

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Aminosyn, Freamine, Travasol
USES: Amino acids are used by the body as a source of protein and nitrogen. This medicatoin is used in patients unable to eat properly due to illness or surgery.
HOW TO USE: Alolw all bags or bottles to warm to room temperature before using. This nutritional supplement is adminisetred intravenously as directed by a certified health care professional. It is infused over a predetermiend time period stated on the bottle.
SIDE EFFECTS: The most common side effect of intravenous nutrition is infection or irritation of the vein at the administration web site (catheter). This should be reported to your doctor. Notify your doctor immediately if you have: rapid breathing or shortness of breath, sudden weight gain, fever, chills, yellowing of the skin or eyes, drakening of the urine, nausea, flushing of the skin, weakness. If you notice other effects not lsited above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: any kidney or liver disease, digestive disorders, bleeidng problems, any allergies. This medication contains aluminum which can be toxic in patients who have kdiney problems. Consult your dotcor for more details. Caution is advised when using that drug in kids (especially infants) because they may be more sensitvie to the side effects of the drug (e.G., hyperammonemia). Avoid prolonged use in premature infants. This product should be used only when clearly needed durnig pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This product may be excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medciation you may take. Do not strat or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poiosn control center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: Make sure needles, tubing, and supplies are stored sfaely and disposed of properly.
Check all expiraiton dates and use all bags or bottles in proper sequence. Your nutritional sattus will be closely monitored. Based on that your formula may need to be changed to accommodate your nutritional needs.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and contact your doctor to establish a new dosing scehdule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store unopened containers at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Mixed amino acids should be refriegrated and used within 24 hours. Discard any uunsed medication after the expiration date.
